The samples are in Windows Media Audio format (.wma) and the quality is 16Kbit/s,16000Hz,Mono of approximately 1 to 2 min time duration. Just about everyone has Windows Media Player (it comes as standard with all versions of Microsoft Windows & Internet Explorer). The download dialog sequence will probably ask you to go & get the latest version of Windows Media Player from MSN but you don't really need to because the older versions will play simple sound files just as well. If you DO wish to go fetch the latest version of Windows Media Player simply hit the yes button when offered.
